Screening

Screening exams are studies performed in order to detect disease before signs or symptoms develop. For many illnesses, early detection and treatment may slow disease progression, improve overall outcome, and increase the chance of a cure. When disease is detected at an early stage, treatment options may be less costly and less invasive. Most insurance companies, however, do not cover the cost of these beneficial screening procedures. Princeton Radiology presently offers a variety of screenings, available with a physician’s referral.

Who May Benefit?

Anyone 40 years of age or older who is considered at risk for heart disease or cancer based on family history or personal history may benefit by having a screening exam. This includes you if you have:

  • History of smoking
  • Family history of cancer
  • Family history of heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Family history of aneurysm
  • Sedentary or stressful lifestyle
  • Women with a family history of ovarian cancer

Consideration of this potentially valuable examination should be discussed with your physician. Please note that if you are having symptoms such as chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath or palpitations, you should contact your physician immediately—you do not qualify for screening.

Results

Princeton Radiology will send a formal report to your referring physician within 2-3 business days of your screening procedure. Your physician will then be able to discuss this information with you. Whatever the results of your screening test, it is imperative that you discuss the findings with your physician, who may integrate them with the rest of your personal and family history, as well as any other screening tests, to formulate an overall plan for good health.
